Managing the way oil and gas are extracted

Intro

WiseRock is a software aimed at helping operators of the oil and gas industry to track and optimize production workflows. The software has a simple but friendly user interface. It doesn't require much time to set up and can be used immediately after installation.

Tracking and monitoring

Engineers enter production data on daily basis to track expected and actual production. Based on this data WiseRock application builds a chart, to make it easier to follow the production flow and react quickly to emergency situations. With the help of the Decline Analysis feature, it is possible to build a curve that will help to generate a forecast of future production rates and to determine the expected ultimate recoverable (EUR) reserves.

WiseRock allows keeping various types of data in the same place. These can be images, files, text, or comments which will later serve as examples of production trends or issues. The data is stored and can be accessed even several years later. This knowledge base can help at tracking patterns within the production cycle.

Operating data and analyzing

The application allows recording different events, which influenced the production rate and allocation issues. It can be done also very easily by clicking and dragging lines on the chart. Variance trellis gives a complete picture of the production variance and its reasons. Also, the application calculates such indicators as BOE, GOR, Watercut, and GLR.

Advanced visualization using D3 and SVG

In order to create beautiful custom visualizations on the web, and make them dynamic and advanced at the same time, we chose a powerful engine on top of D3 and SVG API. It also helped us to provide a good user experience.

DevOps solution

It was very important to make the application highly performing and secure at the same time. We created a system with four components: API, Data migration scripts, Client application, and Storages. The first three-run as isolated components in a multi-tenant setup. None of them store actual data. Data was secured and stored in Data storages which we set up in a shared environment. All our applications run in an isolated Docker container in Kubernetes cluster. The cluster supports auto-scaling and can handle high loads, which solves the challenge with performance.

DevelopsToday team decided to use a multi-cloud strategy as a part of our DevOps solution. We used AWS and Azure services to create a shared environment. It works as a safe place to store data and share information with Wiserock's products. We prepared Blob Storage and Database setup. Using a cloud provider like AWS gives additional security and SLA policy coverage.
